The Universe continues to have its way with me in yet more hilariously entertaining ways.
During a hard week of decorating - up a ladder, stripping paint, sanding, re-painting and puttying a large bay window - in which I wrenched virtually every muscle in my body, Fate threw me two curveballs. Last Friday the brakes on my car went, thanks to a broken brake booster pipe, though I was fortunately able to bring the car to a stop without killing myself. Then, just yesterday, the hard disk drive on my 18 month-old computer crashed. Not some kind of fixable soft crash, either - a full on head crash that sounded like someone had taken a chainsaw to it.
By some miracle I had actually backed up the majority of my important files about two weeks ago, but several hours of 3D-modelling was lost - stuff that I was especially pleased with, too - and now I am relegated to using my wife's laptop for a couple of weeks until I can afford to either fix the computer or replace it entirely. Given that I can't find my damn recovery disks, it would only cost about an extra £50 to buy a whole new desktop than it would to buy a new hard drive and a set of replacement recovery disks from HP.
To further complicate matters, next Tuesday is my daughter's birthday and tomorrow we are having her birthday party, both of which require money that I barely have, so that scuppers my plans for getting my PC up and running in the near future. Perhaps I shall put "New Computer" at the top of my Christmas list and hope that someone in my family is well-off enough - and generous enough - to buy me one.
Still, at least I almost have my health...
